Conf #172: Courage2012-6 – The Varieties of Guilt
Fr. Jeffrey Keefe, O.F.M. Conv., director of Courage in Syracuse, NY, gives his talk at the 2012 International Courage Conference on the The Varieties of Guilt which we face on our pilgrimage to God and the appropriate pastoral approach to cope with them in a world where temptation and sin are increasing. In the process he explains the nature of shame and how shame and guilt are our built in monitors of our behavior. Yet, no matter how bad we mess up, we should look to God to help straighten out the mess and so find peace.

Against Homosexuality – Teachings of the Church of Christ
Against the sins of homosexuality (sodomy) the Church has always taught. With Scripture, Tradition and Reason, it is evident that homosexuality is a grave sin that cries to heaven for justice. Lumped together with that detestable act, are bestiality, pedophilia, incest and all unnatural sexual lusts and acts. As Christians we must reject sodomy as a gross sin (like rape, murder, thievery, etc) and do all we can to pray for and guide the erring to justice and virtuous living. Thus we love one another.
Included in the video are 3 paintings of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah with Lot leaving the city. The two songs are a Byzantine Chant “Communion Verse” and Gregorian Chant “Os Iusti”.

Against Abortion – Teachings of the Church of Christ
The Catholic Church, i.e. Church of Christ, has always held abortion at all stages to be the destruction of an innocent life. Long before science had “proven” it, the Church saw that life truly began at the moment of conception. Because it is a full person, he/she is to be protected from conception. I used various authorities of Scripture, Tradition and Canon Law to reaffirm that ALL CHRISTIANS MUST REJECT ABORTION. To support it, to have one, or to perform one is a heinous abomination.

Jul 06 – Homily: Horror Turned Beautiful By Grace
God’s grace can turn a most horrible event into something beautiful, like the attack on St. Maria Goretti by Alessandro Serenelli, a young man filled with lust.
Serenelli later became a laybrother of the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin, living in a friary and working as its porter and gardener until death peacefully in 1970.
