Aug 20 – Homily: Salvation and Sanctification
Homily #120820 ( 00min) Play-The first part of today’s Gospel is for all of us – if we want to save our souls and enter into eternal life we must keep the commandments.
The second part is for some of us – the call to holiness is universal – but not all are called by the same path – the young man in today’s Gosepl is called to give his possessions to the poor and to follow Our Lord – this is the call to religious life.

Aug 07 – Homily: Be Not Anxious
Drawing from the text of today’s Gospel, Fr. Ignatius comments on the ubiquity of anxiety in our age and suggests the primary reason for it is that many today do not seek first the kingdom of God and his justice, that is, the salvation and sanctification of their souls.

We are to do this by doing God’s will and so work out our salvation in fear and trembling and in this way we will also be good citizens in this life as well. Oh, and do pay those taxes.

A Day With Mary – Walsingham: Mother in The Order of Grace
God knows that not all will cooperate with the grace He offers to each, the same with the benefit of Mary’s motherhood, not all will except this great grace.
We need to participate in the liturgy more and more perfectly with the help of Mary.

Flores Apparuerunt – Catholic Gregorian Chant Hymns
This hymn is taken in its parts from the Song of Songs of Solomon. The painting, which I really love, is Joseph teaching the child Jesus carpentry. It is called “Childhood of Christ” by Gerard van Honthorst. The Latin lyrics and rough English translation follow:
Flores apparuerunt in terra nostra, Tempus putationis advenit; Vox turturis audita est in terra nostra.
Surge, amica mea, speciosa mea, et veni: columba mea, in foraminibus petræ, in caverna maceriæ.
The flowers have appeared in our land, the time of pruning is come: the voice of the turtle is heard in our land.
Arise, my love, my beautiful one, and come: my dove, in the clefts of the rock, in the hollow places of the wall.
