Oct 23 – Homily: Seek Truth and Love
Fr. Bonaventure preaches on the need for seeking the truth and to love Him who is Truth. He bases this on the gospel where Our Lord tells the sincere Pharisee that the greatest commandment is:
You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.
Father describes the three fold love that this encompasses:
Love of God Correct love of self Love of Neighbor
He relates this to three practical points:
Reject all idols, God is our final goal and object of our love. Earthly goods are only good to the extent that we use them as means to grow closer to God Make this Love of God prominent in our lives especially above all considerations of human respect.
