Conf #171: Courage2012-5 – Andrew Comiskey, Coming Home to our True Sexuality
Ave Maria!
Andrew Comiskey, Executive Director and Founder of Desert Stream Ministries, gives his talk at the 2012 Courage Conference at Mt. St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, MD. The talk is titled Naked Surrender – Coming Home to our True Sexuality based on his book of that title. He covers his long journey from a homosexual lifestyle to becoming a Christian and the long healing process involved in shedding the brokenness of a sin and coming to the wholeness of Christ and helping others to do the same in his ministry. He stresses that the process of healing is never finished here on earth and key to remaining fruitful both for healing oneself and others is to continually acknowledge one’s own brokenness before God and men in all humility. He intersperses references to his recent conversion to the Catholic faith and how this has integrated with his overall journey. Listen to this heartfelt talk, filled with pastoral wisdom and understanding for those suffering from same sex attraction.

Conf 149: Dr. Fitzgibbons – Self Mastery
Adult themes discussed. Dr. Rick Fitzgibbons gives a talk titled “Self Mastery to Self Giving: Anger and Sadness” at the annual National Courage Conference held this year in August at the University of St. Mary of the Lake in Mundelein, IL near Chicago. He uses his experience as a professor at the John Paul II Institute, and his work with thousands of couples to explain the teaching of John Paul II that the secret to self-giving is to master one’s self and how this helps with confidence to develop healthy, moral relationships. He also goes into some history of how homosexuality was given de facto acceptance by many factions in the Church and the crisis to which this has led. He mentions errors in the report of the pedophilia crisis in the Church by the John Jay Criminal College, how some of the myths listed in the Virtus Program about the Crisis are in fact realities. He recommends Homesexuality and hope PDF as a resource for those dealing with same sex attraction. Ave Maria! +++

Conf #147: Bp. Olmsted – Faith and Fidelity Today
Ave Maria! Bishop Timothy L. Olmsted of Phoenix, AZ gives a talk called “Blessed are Those Who Believe: Faith and Fidelity Today” at the Courage Annual Conference. He covers the virtues in general and then focuses on Faith in particular and how to stay strong in this virtue when today’s world is so discouraging. He does this by examining the life of Blessed John Paul II whom he personally knew. Of the many virtues that the Blessed Pope had, Faith is what stands out the most and this is based on his devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary who as St. Elizabeth proclaimed “Blessed is she who believed”. He grew in faith despite having experienced many personal and national tragedies in Poland in World War II and the communist aftermath. This Faith involves three elements 1. Trust in God completely, 2. Ascent, a free ascent to the whole truth, 3. Obedience, to what God asks us to do. Ave Maria! +++
