As a women that believes strongly in my faith and Jesus did certain things because of the times he was in. I do believe that Jesus did not appoint women to teach because they would have not been effective because of the time and customs of the time. I believe that today, a priest that happens to be a women would be judged by their works not their sex.
As to the effect it would make on our church today and the homosexuals in the priesthood and the money we (the church) has paid out. It is not homosexuals but pedofiles. One has nothing to do with the other. The pedofiles found a culture that allowed them to practice and hide.
This is the worst case put forward for for an all male priesthood I have ever listen to. Full of non sequitors and spurious arguements.
I agree with Margaret that women would make excellent priests - we no longer live in the 1st century. It’s a great shame that my, male led chruch cannot see this
Margaret,
To say that the reason that Jesus did not ordain women to be priests is because of the times he lived in is an incorrect assumption.
Using this logic, there would be no beatitudes, no healing on the Sabbath, no Eucharist, etc.
Also, as Father mentions, Jesus gave roles of greater responsibility that women would not have been given in his present day.
Phil,
I don’t quite understand why you say this is the worst argument you have ever heard. Father outlines main points why the female priesthood is not possible.
It is a great shame that you do not see this, and instead border on believing in something heretical.
Of course Jesus did somethings not expected, however, he was still a man of his times. To mess with the women and their place would have caused people to focus less on his message and more on the changes he was causing. He had a plan on what he was teaching us, and the changes to women at the time was not as important.
Now mankind should have grown enough to accept the presthood of women. But hearing your opinion makes me believe that it might still be to early when you are calling Phil a heretic.
Jesus did not make it a church law not to have women priest that was man’s law for the church. He could have hoped for growth. Some people do not have that yet.
I do also believe that Jesus put forth the knowlege to let us humans to judge for ourselves without the judgement of others.
