Benedict XVI receives the president of Montenegro
Pope Benedict XVI this morning received the president of Montenegro Filip Vujanovic. The president later met with Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone, and then exchanged the instruments of ratification of the Basic Agreement between the Holy See and Montenegro. The agreement recognises the juridical status of the Catholic Church and its relations with the civil authorities. Cardinal Bertone said that the agreement is intended to lead to overcoming the problems inherited from the past, and to build a better future: a future of mutual respect and cooperation between religious communities and civil authorities, and of harmony between peoples and religions of this country.
